About me - Richard
Salesperson. Commercial Leader. Author. Lifelong learner.
I’ve spent the last 30+ years building sales teams, growing businesses, and learning a thing or two the hard way — across the UK, the North America, Australia, Europe and Asia, and more airport lounges than I care to remember.
What started as a job fixing typewriters turned into a global commercial career. I’ve held roles from field rep to Managing Director, covering industries as varied as electronic components, rail infrastructure, and ports. I’ve lived in four countries, built high-performing teams, and had a front-row seat to the kind of real-world sales and leadership experience they don’t teach in classrooms. I also enjoyed some superb mentorship, the highlights of which I gladly share..
Now, I work with B2B companies who want practical sales direction — and I write books to help salespeople grow their careers with confidence and clarity.
The Sales Reset Series - Built from Experience, Written for Your Career
I’ve written a series of field-tested books for people who sell, lead, or want to move forward in their careers — starting with The Sales Reset. These books aren’t fluff. They’re practical, honest guides for:
New salespeople who want to get it right early
Experienced pros looking to sharpen their edge
Leaders with sales in their remit but no formal sales background
Salespeople serous about advancing their careers and effectiveness
Each one is rooted in reality, and critically offer simple and practical advice to help you in your jobs from day one. Sales isn't complicated. You don't need to be a master slick closing techniques or clever psychological games (although I do have a book coming that exposes some of those used by professional buyers!)
My Philosophy? Keep it Simple.
I never had the traditional qualifications you'd expect of a CEO - but I made it there anyway. Curiousity, asking questions, listening well and simplifying wherever possible got me through.
I've learned that simplicity beats complexity every time. Great brain surgeons and rocket engineers both rely on simple frameworks. Sales should be no different, a clear process followed with discipline, will get you further than hard graft alone.
And sales is no different, following some pretty simple rules, a sales process, can and will set you apart from the majority. I have sat both sides of the desk, you know the buyers one side the sellers the other, and too often I see people failing not because they are stupid, and not even because they are not working hard some are working harder than I ever did, but follow a simple process and you start to stand out.
Who better to make the leap from a department leader to CEO than someone from sales? With the right help, many can grow into outstanding commercial leaders.
I believe that value is the core of confidence in sales. Helping someone find that value, not just in what they sell but in themselves is one of the most rewarding things I do.
Want To Talk?
If you are looking for practical sales direction, a part-time commercial lead, a mentor or just curious about what a fresh pair of eyes could do for your business, let's talk.
Or grab the book, start with a chapter, its a circular process so you can pick your starting point according to today's position, and see where it takes you.

Meet Maggie!
This is Maggie, the second Dachshund I have had in my life. The first was Mr Frankles, named after a famous race horse. Whilst the "Teckle" is my favourite best dog breed, difficult customer just does not cover it.
Maggie for all her charm is suspicious of doorbells, other dogs, cats, birds and not easily impressed. She is loyal, clever but the kind of sausage-shaped manipulator whose tactics would shame even the wiliest of buyers!
I'm not suggesting you bribe a difficult customer with a bonio biscuit but it occasionally works with Maggie....occasionally.
